My 12-year old loves to draw, and the other day we were imagining what life might be like should she choose to enter a creative profession in, say, 10 years.
We envisioned her sitting on a couch, sliding on a pair of Oakley shades which have exponentially more functionality than a Vision Pro, tapping into NASA levels of supercomputing power in her pocket.
She'll design wholly immersive virtual worlds through a combination of hand waves and conversational banter with an army of AI assistants at her command.
On one hand - what an incredible time to be alive! Such technology will no doubt be awe-inspiring, scary, and wildly powerful.
On the other - how will one plan a career when every tool and workflow will likely be evolving at light speed? Job descriptions we can't even conceive of yet will emerge and become obsolete in months.
Will each project be a virtual gig of free agents around the world, each with some specialty for a particular task? Will everyone just be numbered employees of Zucker-Musk-Altman-MegaCorp, run by trillionaires who control all technology and all content it produces?
Truth is, I can't imagine what the creative world will be like for my daughter. But it'll be fascinating to watch unfold.
How do you envision the careers of the next generation of creatives?
